The purpose of the Student Ombudsperson is:

  1. to mediate between students and academic staff or administrative services of the University;

  3. to address cases of maladministration;
  4. to safeguard the proper and smooth operation of the University.

In accordance with Article 55 of Law 4009/2011, the Student Ombudsperson investigates cases, either ex officio or following a student complaint, and mediates with the competent University bodies for their resolution.

The Student Ombudsperson may request from the University’s services any information, document or other evidence relating to a case, examine persons, conduct on-site inspections and order expert opinions.

Where the Student Ombudsperson finds that, in a specific case, legality has not been observed, that there are instances of maladministration, or that the proper functioning of the University has been disrupted, they draw up a report. This report is communicated to the academic staff member concerned or to the competent administrative service, as well as to the student who submitted the complaint, and the Student Ombudsperson mediates in every appropriate way to resolve the issue.

The Student Ombudsperson may, by decision, place on file any complaint that is deemed manifestly vague, unfounded or unsupported. Where the Student Ombudsperson considers that there are indications of a disciplinary offence, the case is forwarded to the competent disciplinary body.

The findings of the Student Ombudsperson, as well as the annual activity report, are published on the University’s website, subject to the provisions of Law 2472/1997 (Government Gazette A΄ 50), as in force.

The Student Ombudsperson may also investigate cases ex officio and may request from the University’s services any information, document or other evidence relating to the case, examine persons, conduct on-site inspections and order expert opinions.

The malicious submission of a complaint that does not correspond to reality and is made with the sole purpose of harming the honour and reputation of a member of the teaching staff is subject to disciplinary sanctions.

The Student Ombudsperson is not competent to examine matters relating to examination methods or grading.
