Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the European Commission’s programme for education, training, youth and sport for the period 2021–2027. It aims to enhance skills and employability, as well as to modernise education, training and youth systems across all areas of lifelong learning, including higher education, vocational education and training, adult education, school education and youth activities.

As demonstrated by the COVID-19 pandemic, access to education has proven, more than ever, to be essential for ensuring a swift recovery while promoting equal opportunities for all. In the context of this recovery process, Erasmus+ has acquired a renewed inclusive dimension, supporting opportunities for personal, socio-educational and professional development for people in Europe and beyond, with the aim of leaving no one behind.

Through this action, students may participate in the Erasmus+ Programme in order to undertake:

  • a period of study abroad at a partner Higher Education Institution;
  • a traineeship abroad in an enterprise, research institute, laboratory, organisation or other relevant workplace. A period of study abroad may also include a traineeship.

In order to ensure high-quality mobility with maximum impact on students, mobility activities must respond to students’ learning and personal development needs in relation to their degree. A study period abroad must form part of the student’s programme of study leading to a degree at first cycle level, i.e. undergraduate or equivalent, second cycle level, i.e. postgraduate or equivalent, or third cycle/doctoral level.

Support is also provided for traineeships in workplaces abroad during the first, second and third cycles of study, and within one year of the student’s graduation. Traineeships may also include assistantships in the field of teaching.

The action also supports:

  • mobility of academic and administrative staff of Higher Education Institutions, including teaching and training activities such as job shadowing, observation periods and training seminars;
  • Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), which enable groups of Higher Education Institutions to jointly develop curricula and short-term blended mobility activities for students, as well as for academic and administrative staff;
  • international outgoing mobility to all third countries not associated with the Programme, supported by EU internal policy funds, with the aim of developing forward-looking and other relevant skills among students and staff from Higher Education Institutions located in EU Member States and third countries associated with the Programme;
  • international outgoing and incoming mobility to and from third countries not associated with the Programme, funded through the EU’s external action instruments.

Building on the success of the 2014–2020 programme period, Erasmus+ strengthens its efforts to increase the opportunities offered to more participants and to a wider range of organisations, focusing on its qualitative impact and contributing to more cohesive, greener and better digitally prepared societies.

Panteion University has participated in the Erasmus Programme since 1987 through mobility for studies and traineeships. Since the academic year 2013–2014, it has served as lead coordinator of a Traineeship Consortium, in partnership with the University of Piraeus and Harokopio University. Since the academic year 2014–2015, it has coordinated a Traineeship Consortium with the University of Piraeus, Harokopio University, the National Technical University of Athens, Democritus University of Thrace, and the Municipalities of Amarousion and Piraeus.

During the 2021–2027 programming period, all the above-mentioned Erasmus+ Programme actions are implemented at Panteion University.

Panteion University has signed more than 400 bilateral agreements with Higher Education Institutions in EU countries and approximately 60 inter-university agreements with institutions in non-EU countries. International mobility with countries outside Europe is considered particularly important, taking into account the duration and the specific nature of the Programme.

During the period 2021–2025, approximately 1,250 students participated in mobility activities at universities and organisations within and outside Europe. During the same period, the number of students coming to Panteion University from European and international universities exceeded 850.

During the academic year 2024–2025, approximately 340 students from Panteion University participated in mobility for studies and traineeships, while incoming students exceeded 260, with interest continuing to increase for both studies and traineeships.
